Concetta Modica. Atlantis Bothnica - Submerged Gallery, 2009

Soon after arriving to Rauma Concetta Modica left to Merikarvia for a week to make works and install and exhibition with artists Sergei Arhipov, Maria Markkio, Niko Palokankangas, Anna Turunen and Veijo Setälä. Exhibition Atlantis Bothnica – Submerged Gallery was exhibited on 30th June – 26th July and Atlantis Come on 26th June – 27th August at the Galleria Vanha Savu (Gallery Old Smoke).

Baseline for the Atlantis exhibition lied on the theme year of Selkämeri (Bothnian Sea) and in the idea to join the gallery into the sea. While the artists were installing the exhibition a whole gallery itself was transformed into Atlantis, which gradually sinks into the Bothnian Sea. Same theme recurred also in three furnaces, for which installations were build especially for the children.

Raumars artist Concetta Modica is a conceptual and a performance artist whose video “Ovo n'ovo” probed the birth of the beginning – which was first an egg or a hen – or Hamlet with his questions. The work “San Peter” made in Merikarvia was downright magic and the work “Introduction” joined Merikarvia, visitors’s of the exhibition and Modica’s studio in Milan.
