Minihysteria Children's Event “Moving Like Lace”

On Saturday 24th October at 10:15, 11:15 and 12:15 our RaumArs-artist-in-residence choreographer and dancer Babs Case will lead a dance workshop Moving Like Lace at Rauma Central Park. The worskhop is best for 7-11 years old. Organizer Rauman Yrittäjät.

American Choreographer Babs Case in collaboration with Sculptor Suzanne Morlock will be setting new work on community members using unique improvisational choreographic techniques.

Structured improvisations exploring concepts of chance, the use of language, sound and gesture as information will be presented to "invent" new movement vocabulary.

This will conclude with a final performance.

Begins evenings Tuesday 20 October and concludes Thursday 30 October 2015.

Babs Case is artistic director of Dancers’ Workshop in Jackson, Wyoming. She has performed, choreographed, and taught modern dance throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, Canada, and South America. She attributes her multidisciplinary approach to dance to her professional affiliations with the Harry Partch Foundation and Company, Richard Landry of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and Lincoln Center Institute and Obie award winning actor Bob Berky. She was the founding director of The Center for the Arts in Stuart, FL for 12 years. Babs is a past beneficiary of National Endowment for the Arts funding and a two-time recipient of both the Florida and Wyoming Fellowship Awards for Choreography. In 1992, she was awarded an Indo-American Research Fulbright fellowship to study dance, theatre and visual arts in India. As an educator, Babs has taught at universities throughout the U.S. and offers multidisciplinary residencies in schools and workshops for at-risk youth. In 1999 she moved to Wyoming and formed Wyoming’s first modern dance company, Contemporary Dance Wyoming, which tours regionally performing lecture demonstrations in schools and formal concerts for the public. Most recently her contributions to the arts were recognized by receiving the Cultural Council of Jackson Hole Award for Creativity in 2009, and by receiving the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award for 2013.
