Chan Vi (b. 1982 UK)

In April 2006 Raumars welcomed a volunteer artist Chan Vi through French organisation, Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes/ Artis-In-Context 6 Program. Chan Vi participated The Little Mermaid project of different collaborative parties. In April and May Chan Vi worked with children from Nanu Elementary School classes 4A and 5B, Framatome School and English kindergarten. The workshops where based on The Little Mermaid by H.C. Andersen and the purpose was to focus on a life in a different culture, how one misses home and how to make yourself feel at home in strange surroundings.
The children from English kindergarten worked on a Window aquarium based on The Little Mermaid story. The school children experimented with different materials combined with narrative process. One of the results was an installation Aquarium balls at Teresia and Rafael Lönnström Home Museum park.
From May until July Chan Vi participated the creative process of The Little Mermaid Play instructed by the guiding regional artist Hilkka Hyttinen from The Arts Council of Satakunta. In the summer workshops Chan Vi worked on the staging of the play with Tuuli Seppälä and selected school children. The documentation of the The Little Mermaid process was also Chan’s responsibility. Music was produced and performed with the cooperation of Sean Griffin. There were 40 children involved in The Little Mermaid Play. The children’s workshops resulted the manuscript, staging, dances and music for the play coordinated by Hilkka Hyttinen.
